Oui Jewelers

BRIEF
In this project, I had to come up with a make believe brand and design the promotional materials needed for that brand. The requirements were to 1) create a new company/brand and define the brand identity, 2) create promotional materials (front of store signage, packaging, extra materials), 3) create packaging using 3D software.

PROBLEM/ PROMPT
How can I design a brand that requires packaging?

CHALLENGE
I decided to create an engagement ring company by the name of "Oui Jewelers". I felt that Oui was very fitting for a company that sells engagement rings. Oui means yes in French, and French is the language of love which is why I chose to use that as the name. I wanted to keep this company timeless and sleek, while making it identifiable at the same time. This was my first project using 3D software so I had to learn how to properly use it but I really enjoyed the challenge.

3D EXPERIMENTATION
This entire process was my first time working with 3D software so I had a lot to learn initially. I used Tinkercad 3D software as well as Adobe XD software in order to create a simple and sleek ring box. I wanted it to be a bit more unique than the traditional ring box that flips open, so I chose to have the top of the box open on a swivel. In the beginning stages of this production process I made several versions of the box using paper and folded it together to see the aesthetics and functionality of the box. After trial and error I chose to continue with the swivel box made with a velvet interior and leather exterior.

THOUGHT PROCESS
Although I wanted to keep this company very sleek and timeless I still wanted it to stand out against competition. Since I chose to base the name on a French word, I wanted to incorporate some stylistic choices from France to tie it all together. I pulled a lot of inspiration from French street style and design. I admire the combination of simplicity and boldness which is why I chose to make the "Oui" part of the brand be in a bold thick font, and the "Jewelers" be in a whimsical thin font. The juxtaposition creates visual interest and draws customers into the brand.
